we are happy to share: Galeries Lafayette has been awarded WINNER at the iconic award: innovative architecture hosted by the german design council.
‘paris meets istanbul’ is the leitmotif of the design concept for Galeries Lafayette in istanbul. it was important to convey the french-parisian design heritage as well as the strength and reputation of the brand while translating it appropriately to this distinct market. in addition, Galeries Lafayette Istanbul is the first department store to implement Galeries Lafayette’s new CI. we had to implement new design elements and for example a new colour range, that has a significant percentage of white along with black, red and gold.
the highlight of the design concept is a large void of 20 meters, connecting all levels of the store. situated above, we designed an extraordinary cupola, made of polished steel prisms. patterned with a new laser-cut technique, the so called “coupole” is an artistic interpretation of the famous cupola at Galeries Lafayette’s headquarter in paris. the pendant lighting installation serves as retail lighting (practical purpose), on the other hand as an artistic installation. the result: an exceptional installation, connecting high tech and beauty.
great news we would like to share: our beloved showroom A’space has once again been awarded. this time at the 2017 International Design Awards with an honorable mention.
plajer & franz studio has been developing brand architecture for french luxury department store group Galeries Lafayette since 2005. after redesigns for Galeries Lafayette berlin and the overall planning of department store Galeries Lafayette in jakarta, the french retailer gave plajer & franz the opportunity to design a new department store in istanbul. as in previous projects, plajer & franz studio had been assigned to create the store design with entrance areas and outdoor-facades, translate the new ci into the store design and was in charge of the overall artistic supervision of the project.
the department store’s design unites the brand’s french heritage with an innovative spirit and a contemporary shopping experience. best example of the modern interpretation of the french-parisian style is the archaic “coupole” in the center of the department store, installed above a 20 meter wide atrium. made of polished steel prisms and patterned with a new laser-cut technique, it is the highlight of the design concept and an artistic interpretation of the famous cupola at the retailers’ headquarters at boulevard haussmann in paris. overall the newly interpreted design elements and interesting mixtures of materials like bronze, marble, sandblasted glass or natural wood, as well as special lighting scenarios and color accents create an exclusive an spacious shopping experience. individual furniture designs, complemented by selected antiquities add a private and accommodating atmosphere.

Renowned international real estate federation FIABCI annually awards FIABCI Prix d’Excellence for commercial and residential projects. This year JOHN PARK was awarded „Prix d’Excellence Official Selection 2016“ .
Note from the jury: The synthesis of the old and new building fits harmoniously into the neighborhood of the historic Invaliden Cemetery. The facade speaks a clear language and is reserved in its form. JOHN PARK creates a balance between green space and the city, between the park and the urban quarter. The Invaliden Cemetery is an integral part of the property with the architecturally open gesture to the monument park.
